Onaway, Michigan is located in the northeast, lower peninsula of Michigan, on the western edge of Presque Isle County. It is 18 miles east of I-75, 22 miles west of Lake Huron, 45 miles southeast of the Straits of Mackinac and 265 miles north of Detroit.

Onaway is surrounded by thousands of acres of Mackinaw State Forest that offers a myriad of outdoor recreational opportunities. Located just five miles from Onaway State Park and the very popular Black Lake with its excellent walleye, bass and perch fishing and just 8 miles from Northern Michigan’s best kept secret, the Black Mountain State Forest Recreation Area, Onaway is an all season, all outdoor, recreation destination. Onaway is also just a short drive from Burt Lake & Mullet Lake and Michigan’s popular Inland Waterway and only 40 minutes from Mackinaw City, the Mackinac Bridge and Mackinac Island.
